Here We Go A Wasailling!

It's so cold outside, so I was thinking of putting a recipe for something warm and tasty! I found this wassail recipe on allrecipes.com. It's a great party drink to serve and also makes your home smell sooooo good!

INGREDIENTS
1 gallon apple cider
6 apples, cored and cut into 1 inch chunks
4 (2 inch) whole cinnamon sticks
1/4 teaspoon ground mace
1/4 teaspoon anise seed
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground ginger
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 lemon, thinly sliced

DIRECTIONS
Combine the cider, apple chunks, and cinnamon sticks in a large kettle and bring to a boil over medium heat. Turn the heat down to low and add the mace, anise seed, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and brown sugar. Stir to combine, and simmer for 20 minutes until the spices have developed their flavor.

Drop in the orange and lemon slices, simmer for 5 more minutes, and turn off the heat. Ladle the wassail punch into mugs and serve hot. Include a few pieces of cooked apple or a cooked orange or lemon slice in each mug.
Wassail smells great and tastes so good, it's a good thing to have ready if your home is listed and you're having an open house. If you are thinking of listing your home and need help from real estate experts, please call us! We're the Atchley Group and you can call us at 405-330-2626!

It's Friday!

Don't you just love Fridays? I know I do, and I've got some major Christmas shopping planned for this weekend. I think I'm going to try to avoid Penn Square Mall (not enough parking) and just hit the individual stores like Kohl's and Old Navy. I can't believe how far behind I am on my shopping this year, I mean last year I was finished before Thanksgiving. Anyway, shopping is a lot of fun on the weekends especially. I know it's cold out so a lot of people do their shopping online.

That's what is so great about real estate these days, you can look on a website and find out everything you need to know about a house, and then make a decision to set up a showing appointment or not. Just check out our featured homes page on our web site, you can see tons of pictures, detailed descriptions about almost every room in the home and also in depth visual tours. You're going to feel like you're already in the house! Call us if you see a home on our website or any website that you would like to check out in person, we're real estate experts in the Oklahoma City and Edmond areas!

Holiday Safety

Here are some tips to keep you and your family's home safe during the holidays:

1. Be sure to use indoor lights indoor, and outdoor lights outdoors!

2. When using ladders for decorating always have someone there with you in case there is an accident.

3. Be careful with candles, keep them away from the tree, gifts and any holiday decorations that are highly flammable. Also be sure to trim the wicks so the flame doesn't get too high.

4. Don't overload the tree with too many decorations and lights, it could tip over!

5. Always take care of your fireplace and never leave fires unattended.

6. If it snows, try to keep the walkway clear and put down salt so that no one falls.

7. As far as holiday plants go, holly and mistletoe are great to decorate with, but remember that they are poisonous! Keep them high up and away from pets and children. Poinsetta's are not poisonous, so no worries there.

Christmas Christmas Time Is Near!

So now that Thanksgiving is over, we can officially start the Christmas season! I'm the kind of person who doesn't listen to Christmas music on the radio until the day after Thanksgiving, because I think our society has started going from Halloween directly to Christmas and skipping Thanksgiving! I don't like when people put up their Christmas lights before Thanksgiving either, that one really gets me! Anyway, we're in full holiday swing now! Here's my problem, I have a one year old who is getting into everything! How in the world am I going to put up a tree? I love Christmas trees and the lights and putting the gifts underneath. But with a one year old, do I really want to go through the hassle?

Looks like it's a table top tree for me this year!

Another thing you might be wondering is how to have your house ready for showings during the Christmas season. I say to keep it simple, a table top tree may not be a bad idea, it keeps the home looking neat and makes the living room look larger. I also wouldn't overdo it on the outdoor lights, if you put up lights on your home, be sure to stick with a classic look that anyone could appreciate. My advice is to stick to a tight color scheme and avoid icicle lights, they look a little bit messy to me. If you're thinking about listing your home and you live in the Oklahoma City or Edmond area, please call us, we're The Atchley Group and we'd love to help you! Call us today at 405-330-2626!

One of the great things about working with a team like The Gary Atchley Group is the people! Karen Pulido, our Listing Manager is so much fun to work with and she gets the job done too. She's such a great communicator and really helps to keep our sellers informed about what is happening with showings.

As Listing Manager, she prepares the necessary paperwork to make sure the listing presentation runs smoothly for Gary.

With a Communications degree, she believes as well that communication is a key role in keeping our sellers happy all the while creating a lifetime relationship.

She's always got a smile on her face and a nice thing to say, so if you're listing your home to sell in the Edmond or Oklahoma City area call The Atchley Group at 330-2626 and get to know Karen!

Smells so good!

Last night I went to a friend's house for a dinner party and her home smelled so great! I thought that maybe they had new carpet or something, but when I asked, she said it was a Tyler Candle. I've had one of these candles before and they smell so great! I get headaches easily so I always have to get just the right scent that won't be too strong for me. She was burning their signature "Tyler" scent and it was so nice and not overwhelming. It's the perfect scent to burn if you are preparing your home for a showing. It's so important to keep your home smelling great for showings and it looks like Tyler candles is the way to go! I've seen them at The Market in Edmond over near Quail Springs Mall and I've also seen them at Inspirations. What do you think about Tyler Candles and what is your favorite scent? Call us today if you're preparing to sell your home or if you're in the market for a new home! Just call 330-2626 and ask for The Atchley Group, we specialize in Edmond and the Oklahoma City metro area.

Leaf Me Alone!

I don't know about you, but fall leaves are really starting to bug me! They're everywhere, especially in my entryway and on the paws of our dogs when they come running in the house! You know what that means, leaves all over the floor inside. I actually have a leaf blower which can also suck the leaves up and is great for leaf removal. I used it the other day and our yard looked great, I thought I was going to get ahead of the leaves this year! That is until the Oklahoma wind decided to come in and blow the rest of the leaves off of the huge tree in our front yard, coating it again! Now it's back to square one!
Leave removal isn't just necessary for for cosmetic reason, especially when selling your home, but it's necessary for the health of the yard. Leaves that stay on the lawn can cause the lawn to turn yellow and may even die back. Matted leaves on the ground even encourage some types of diseases to develop that can adversely effect your lawn's health the following year.
So if you're selling your home, or not selling, be sure to get those leaves out of there! If you have decided to sell your home, call The Atchley Group today at 330-2626, we specialize in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Deer Creek, Yukon and Piedmont.

Thanksgiving Is Coming!

I found a great article on About.com about the best places in Oklahoma City to do your Thanksgiving shopping. Estimated cost is figured by adding non-coupon prices obtained in November 2007 for the following items of comparable brand: 12 pound turkey, 12 dinner rolls, 2 cans green beans, 1 pound sweet potatoes, 1 box stuffing, 1 can cranberry sauce, 5 pound bag potatoes, 1 frozen pumpkin pie. Here's the breakdown:

Wal-Mart - Pros: Odds are there's one very near you. The prices are typically quite competitive and the selection diverse. It's the best option for "one-stop" shopping.

Cons: Plan on it being one of the more crowded options for Thanksgiving shopping as well. The shelves will be stacked, but you may have to fight through the people to get to what you want. Patience is definitely required here.

*Estimated Cost: $22.68
Target - Pros: Targets always seem to be very clean and well-kept. You'll find quality brands and food products including an extensive bakery, produce section and fresh as well as frozen turkeys.

Cons: Although the rest of the store always is quite spacious, the grocery section seems less so. The prices are good on turkeys, but you may not find the name brand ones you prefer.

*Estimated Cost: $27.51
Crest Foods - Pros: Of the purely grocery store options, this is probably your best bet as far as sheer quantity of brands. There really isn't a weak section of the store at Crest, and you can get extra savings with coupon specials.

Cons: Although large, Crest can often seem just as crowded as Wal-Mart, particularly around Thanksgiving.

*Estimated Cost: $24.39
Homeland - Pros: Homeland is a pleasant shopping experience, rarely crowded and conveniently compact. The store doubles coupons with the use of a "One" card for extra savings, and you'll find the major brands you seek.

Cons: The selection is not nearly as great as the other stores, and the prices are higher overall. If you don't use a "One" card, you'll often pay more than you would at other places.

*Estimated Cost: $28.43
Williams Grocery - Pros: Williams is another similar to Homeland in the not-too-crowded sense. The stores are almost always very clean, and you'll find some of the freshest produce around. They have fresh as well as frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving too.

Cons: Despite the better prices after changing to Williams, I still find an item or two on occasion that seem a decent amount above some other places. This may be a good place to go when you have an educated handle on shopping value. You can just avoid those higher items and pick them up quickly at another store.

*Estimated Cost: $23.59

The residents of Edmond Health Care Center, 39 E. 33rd Street, invite you and your family to Trick-or-Treat with us from 6-8 p.m. Those spooky sounds of hysterical laughter on the Oklahoma City University campus aren’t because it’s Halloween. Halloween Bass Pro Style will be from 4-7 p.m. at Bass Pro Shop downton. Enjoy trick or treating throughout the store, pumpkin painting, bobbing for apples and more.*

It's Almost Halloween!

I can't believe that it's almost Halloween again! We're having a party at our house and I've been trying to decide on something fun to make for dessert. I found this cake online at pennlive.com. This is an easy way to make any bundt cake really festive. Just bake any flavor bundt cake that you like, I suggest the Duncan Hines carrot cake, it's sooo good and has real carrots and raisins that you add to the mix. Then bake and frost with orange frosting. Add the candy corn and you're ready for your party! What a cute cake. Photo courtesy of Nordic WareA Candy Corn Halloween Bundt Cake was created by Sharon Gretzula of Zephyrhills, Fla., one of 10 finalists in the "Bundts Across America" contest.
If you love entertaining and having dinner parties, be sure to look at our Turner and Son Homes that we have available. They have great open floor plans and a really great flow to them, perfect for parties! Almost all of them have a kitchen/club layout which keeps the host in touch with everyone enjoying the party! Please call us at 330-3636 and ask for The Atchley Group if you have any real estate questions about the Oklahoma City metro area. We also specialize in Edmond, Deer Creek, Piedmont and Yukon. We hope your Halloween is a real "treat"!
